Transmission

Hello guys and gals, I am gonna put a new clutch in my tranny i would like to rebuild the tranny while I have it out, my problem is the tag is gone off the transmission so I'm not sure of the model of the tranny. It is in my 1982 Ford F100 stepside with the 4.9 300 6 cyl. The tranny is a 4 speed od Manuel transmission. How can I tell the model without the tag so I know what rebuild kit to order. . Any help will be greatly appreciated.

It is in my 1982 Ford F100 Flareside with the 4.9 300 6 cyl. The tranny is a 4 speed od (overdrive) manual transmission.

Be prepared for sticker shock, parts for this trans are not cheap. It was also used in 1978/83 E100/250's & misc: 1977/79 cars, but the shift linkage is completely different.

There was another 4 speed O/D used 1984/89, it's not the same!

a side-mounted shift OD (SMOD) .. In that case it will have a factory "hurst" rod style of shift tower. I will also be a cast iron case most likely instead of the aluminum cased SROD. My 82 E150 uses the SMOD style. Drivetrain.com will have examples of all of them with pictures.

Here's a recent thread with some info I found having owned recently an 83 Van with an SROD version..Pictures are here..
